Beef Stroganoff Recipe

A classic Estonian recipe! Makes enough for 4 servings. Perfect with mashed potatoes for lunch or dinner.

  • 1000g beef
  • 2 onions
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 8 DL water
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp white peppercorn
  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 2 DL water
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tsp mustard
  • 220g sour cream

  • Cut beef into small strips, slice onion and throw into pot with the oil and butter until lightly browned
  • Add water, salt and pepper to the pot and steam until the beef has softened
  • In a separate container, mix the 4 tbsp of flour with the 2 DL of water to make a paste
  • Add the flour paste, mustard and tomato paste into your pot
  • Mix in the sour cream and steam until ready

My tips:

  • After I have finished adding in all the fixings to my pot, I let the pot sit for about 40 minutes on a low heat to make sure the beef is perfectly tender
  • I like to serve my beef stroganoff with mashed potatoes, chopped green onions, dark bread and a side of pickles (for some crunch!)
